Reducing Waste, Repurposing and Recycling on farm......

We are very aware of our carbon foot print on the farm so Reducing waste brought onto the farm is very important to us, we are always looking for new and innovative ways to improve. We buy in bulk where we can, so a 1000lt pod of teat spray is bought (instead of 5x 200lt drums) when the pod is emptied we rinse it thoroughly and its passed onto a lifestyle block, where they use it to collect and store rainwater.

We repurpose 200lt drums for storing farm equipment and making animal feeders from. The drums are incredible and can be repurposed in many different ways, due to their strength they are almost indestructable so again last very well. For the 200lt drums we dont use or need we either pass them onto lifestyle blocks so they can repurpose them or they are triple rinsed and collected by Agrecovery to be recycled.

We also use Agrecovery to collect our baleage wrap and they take it away to recycle, most small and large containers can enter the recycling programme and they can all be collected on farm. Which is incredibly convenient and an easy service to use.

At the farm house and staff accommodation all glass and tin is recycled and dropped off at our local recycling centre right in Norsewood. By the time the Farmhouse household scraps are given to the goats (vege & fruit) and chickens (pretty much anything else) there isnt much left for the compost bin other than onion skins and garlic shells.

By always being aware of your waste and how to dispose of it thoughtfully you can reduce what is even brought onto the farm in the first place. Buy better quality items that are designed to last and look after them.
