Fonterra our Millk Supply Company has recently announced they will be rewarding more environmentally sustainable farms for lower emissions and also for a producing a higher quality milk through milk quality excellence.

Mars and Nestle are providing the funding to encourage the farmers to make meaningful, long term changes in the form of sustainable practices in the way they farm. Regarding both the land and animal husbandry.

New emissions excellence achievement will reward farms in various ways, some of the areas that we meet their high standards are, lower stocking rate, lots of well established trees providing shelter, not using palm kernel, not using urea and all our calves born on the farm are either herd replacement (by using sexed semen) or part of the Wagyu beef programme. Our Milk quality is in the top 5% of Fonterra and we are a completely self suffient grass based farm.

The farms that have one of the lowest emmisions footprints in the CO-OP will receive an emmisons incentive payment. There are 300-350 farms within Fonterra that will be eligible for this and we have just been told that we fall within this category, which is very exciting and great to be rewarded for farming in an environmentally friendly way while caring for your animals welfare and producing a high quality food product.
